The unbeatable trick to lower a room's temperature by 4 to 5 degrees, without air conditioning.

🛠️ Required materials
- 🥣 A container at least 40 cm in diameter
- 🧂 1.8 kg of coarse salt or rock salt
- 💧 6 liters of water
👨🔬 Preparation
- Pour 6 liters of water into the container.
- Add 1.8 kg of salt.
- Stir for 2 minutes, until the salt is as dissolved as possible.
It's normal for some of the salt to remain at the bottom: this salt will continue to dissolve gradually as the water evaporates.
🌬️ Setup
Place the container:
- in front of an open window creating an air current,
- or in front of a fan.
The air passing over the water's surface will be naturally cooled.
🔄 When to repeat the operation?
After approximately 6 to 8 hours, all the water will have evaporated.
The salt will remain at the bottom of the container.
Simply add another 6 liters of water to restart the process.
❓ How does it work?
Water evaporation is an endothermic phenomenon: it naturally absorbs heat from the ambient air.
👉 The larger the evaporation surface (hence the benefit of a wide container), the more effective the cooling.
Salt enhances this phenomenon. When it dissolves in water, it must break its crystal bonds, which requires energy.
This energy is drawn from the surrounding heat, creating an additional cooling effect. This phenomenon is called enthalpy of dissolution.
💡 Tip
For optimal results, use the widest possible container and place it in front of a fan to circulate the cooled air throughout the room.
